just from looking at the trees
thursdays are for poems that bring ease
There’s an app that unlocks my truck without the key but it mostly doesn’t work This is a simple poem about attention no great epic but relevant for you Outside the hot springs I held the red button watched the loading icon I tried three times Bella had the actual key in the changing room I couldn’t pack the towels or organize the storage under the backseat At the edge of the parking, an Aspen tree in the grass beside a boulder and two hundred yards behind the trembling heart-shaped leaves sharp sedimentary rock solitary pines hanging on diagonally like skiers hiking to the ridge the sky and south-moving clouds were smoke from a campfire I didn’t cry or remember my dad I smiled and felt at ease in my face and chest just from looking at the trees
